Darrin M. Aase, Ph.D., ABPP
Dr. Darrin M. Aase is a Research Health Scientist at the VA Pacific Islands Health Care System and Pacific Health Research and Education Institute. He is a board-certified neuropsychologist with extensive clinical research experience. He holds an affiliated Associate Professor appointment at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where he was previously Director of the Neurobehavior Program within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health. Dr. Aase’s scientific contributions have focused on neuropsychological sequelae and long-term outcomes among individuals with TBI, PTSD, and other psychiatric conditions, neurodegenerative disorders, suicidality, alcohol use disorder, and other health conditions. His current projects focus on increasing accessibility to neuropsychology specialty services using remote cognitive assessment techniques and exploring pathways to increased accessibility within the Pacific Island region. He also collaborates with the VA Center for Pacific Islander Veterans Health to explore regional differences in disease prevalence (TBI, neurodegenerative diseases, behavioral health conditions) and healthcare utilization among veterans in the Pacific Islands.
Dr. Aase completed his doctorate degree at DePaul University (Chicago, IL) in Clinical-Community Psychology. He completed his post-doctoral fellowship in clinical neuropsychology at Loyola University Medical Center (Maywood, IL). He served on the Practice Advisory Committee for the Society for Clinical Neuropsychology for 12 years, has served on a national task force to publish guidance documents for implementing tele-neuropsychological practice models, and is a Mentor for the American Board of Clinical Neuropsychology.
