Rebecca P. Gelber, M.D., Dr.P.H.

Rebecca P. GelberDr. Gelber is a Research Epidemiologist at PHREI where she serves as a Principal Investigator on a study to investigate the associations of obesity and diabetes with cognition in the elderly, longevity, and the neuropathologic correlates of dementia at autopsy. Her research involves working with prospective cohort data from the Honolulu-Asia Aging Study to identify risk factors for dementia, cognitive impairment, and their pathologic correlates. Dr. Gelber is also assisting in a national study on diabetes being conducted at PHREI. Her primary interests are in aging and metabolic diseases.

Dr. Gelber received her M.D. from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and her M.P.H. and Dr.P.H. from Harvard School of Public Health. She completed her internal medicine residency at the University of Hawaii and served as a research fellow and physician in the Department of Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Dr. Gelber is currently a physician and researcher at the VA Pacific Islands Health Care System and a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine.
