Samuel Dacanay, M.A., F.A.C.C.

Samuel DacanayDr. Dacanay is Chief of Cardiology at the VA Pacific Islands Health Care System, Spark Matsunaga VA Medical Center in Honolulu.  He is a Board Certified physician in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.  Dr. Dacanay is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Hawaii, John A. Burns School of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine.

His research work includes the GUSTO, EPIC, EXCITE and CAMELOT trials studying the use of streptokinase and TPA for occluded coronary arteries, restorative therapies for stroke, effects of antihypertensive drugs on cardiovascular events in patients with coronary artery disease and normal blood pressure.  The latter included a substudy which was the first study ever to show decreased blood pressure has an effect on atherosclerosis.
